Meet January’s Birthstone

Meet Garnet, the birthstone of January! This gemstone has a deep cultural history and is formed in a wide range of colors, although the red garnet is the most common and the hue primarily celebrated this month. The name garnet is derived from the latin “granatus” meaning pomegranate – a reference to the similar color. It is also the gem of the second anniversary! Most garnet today is sourced from Africa, but it continues to be found in Myanmar, Brazil, Iran, Pakistan and India among other places.
