Project Spotlight: Gemstone Ring Makeover
A customer recently brought us a sentimental project of two yellow gold and garnet rings from her mother. She envisioned transforming these two meaningful pieces into one new look while preserving many of their original characteristics. The garnets, representing her mother’s January birthstone, were worn and needed replacing as well as a change in the metal color.
Honoring her request, we selected two new Topaz stones, each holding significant meaning: a London blue pear-shaped Topaz and a Swiss blue oval Topaz.
We carefully removed the well-worn garnet stones and rebuilt the prongs, which had become thin over years of wear. After sizing the rings to fit our customer’s finger, we made small modifications to combine the two rings into one, seamlessly soldering them together.
Years of scratches and wear were carefully polished away, leaving the metal with a high polish while retaining the original Florentine texture. Finally, we completed the transformation with a rhodium electroplate finish, giving the ring a stunning new life while honoring its sentimental meaning.
